For each use category, estimate the litres used per day and multiply by the operating days a year. Add the categories together and divide by 1,000 to convert litres into cubic metres, which is how water is usually billed. Multiplying the cubic metres by your cost per cubic metre gives the annual cost. The calculator does this per category so you can see where the water actually goes.
The big three in most hospitality venues are the dishwasher, kitchen prep and cooking, and restrooms (toilets and handwashing). You can also add ice machines, cleaning and any garden or terrace use. Splitting consumption by category matters because it shows where a reduction measure will have the most effect, rather than guessing.
Water utilities bill in cubic metres (m3), where 1 m3 equals 1,000 litres. Converting your daily litre estimates into cubic metres makes the figures directly comparable with your invoices and with your tariff, so the cost estimate lines up with what you actually pay.
It depends on the category and the measure. An efficient dishwasher cycle, aerators on taps or fixing a running toilet can each cut a category's use noticeably, but because water is relatively cheap per cubic metre the euro saving is often modest, in the tens of euros a year for a single measure. The calculator lets you model a percentage reduction on a category so you can see the realistic figure before investing.
They are estimates built from your own assumptions about daily litres per category. Actual consumption varies with covers, equipment age and staff habits, and tariffs differ by region and supplier. Use the result to prioritise where to act and to sanity-check your bills, not as a metered reading.
